Val Rae Boe

Experience and Certifications: Val Rae has over 15 years of cheerleading experience as coach judge and participant. Val currently serves as the Judging Director for the Minnesota Cheerleading Coaches Association and has served on the MCCA Board since 2005. She holds judging certifications/training from UPA, NCA, AACCA and MCCA. Val has also achieved Bronze Level Certification from the National Federation of High Schools Spirit Association and serves as a Cheerleading Supervisor for the Minnesota State High School League during state tournaments. Along with her MCCA duties, Val judges many local competitions, is a teacher and graduate student pursuing a Doctorate in Education. Val and her husband Barrett live in Plymouth with their two Therapy dogs.

Robin Davis

Experience and Certifications: Robin has been involved with cheerleading for the past 19 years at the high school, collegiate, and professional levels. She was a gymnast and sport/competitive cheerleader throughout high school (UCA All-Star 2 times), at University of Wisconsin Madison and the University of MN Twin Cities, as well as the MN Thunder as captain. Robin has coached the Eastview HS competitive program, Minnetonka HS sport program, MN Thunder sport program, and most recently has been coaching the University of St. Thomas for the past 5 years as head coach. She has also been involved as a competition and tryout judge regionally and state-wide, MSHSL cheerleading representative, and MCCA Board of Directors as treasurer, public/vendor relations, judging coordinator, and all-state assistant. Certifications include AACCA Coaching, AACCA Judging Trained, MCCA Coaching, MCCA Judging, UCA Coaching, and first-aid/CPR. Outside of cheer, Robin is in her first year of pharmacy school at Creighton University.

Erica Hanna

Experience and Certifications: Erica has been choreographing competition routines since she was 16 for squads in Minnesota, Iowa, and the Dakotas. While in high school, she was a 3 time All-American, 2 year Iowa All-State cheerleader, and was the first to perform a girl-girl single based cupie in competition. She was asked by the Iowa Cheer Coaches Association to choreograph for the ICCA All-Star team, and also choreographs for the nationally recognized Waldorf College Squad (also where she cheered in college). Besides choreography, she also instructs personalized cheer clinics. Erica is a member of the award winning WCCO TV creative team.AACCA and MCCA judges training.

Teresa Hanna

Experience and Certifications: Teresa has been involved with cheerleading for over 30 years! She has been the coach at Waldorf College for 15 years, turning down many Division I coaching offers to stay with her talented squad. At Waldorf she coaches the Football, Basketball, and Competition squads. Her proudest moment in coaching was when her squad was chosen by UCA to be the Varsity.com squad of the month over thousands of other nominees. She is proud to coach one of the best all-girl collegiate squads in the midwest! (not to mention the very college she cheered at!) Prior to coaching at Waldorf she coached at Forest City, Iowa Middle School and High school. She also served as an Iowa Cheerleading Coaches Association Board Member. Her favorite part of coaching is seeing young ladies reach their highest potential as cheerleaders, and caring young women. AACCA and MCCA judges training.

Nancy Huether

Experience and Certifications: For 30 years Nancy Huether was a cheer coach at Ballard High School in Huxley, Iowa. In 2007 she retired from teaching and coaching. She is currently serving as a Co-Executive Director for the Iowa Cheerleading Coaches Association of which she is a founding member. Her experience also includes six years on the National Federation Spirit Advisory Board and four years on the National Federation Spirit Rules Committee. In 1998 she was named the National Federation Section 4 Coach of the Year. In 1999 she was awarded the NF National Spirit Contributor of the Year. Currently she is the National Federation Spirit Director in Iowa, and is qualified to teach AACCA, Spirit Program Management, and Coaching Principals. Her judging experience includes both safety judging and performance judging in several states over the past 15 years. She has served as a Cheerleading Rules Clinician for the past 18 years. I have AACCA certification and am and National Federation Education instructor. I also earned my technical judging certificate from the National Federation.

Experience and Certifications: Tiffany began her first year as a cheer coach working as the Assistant Coach for the University of St. Thomas cheerleaders for their 2006-2007 season. Tiffany was a member of the Washington and Lee University cheer squad as a freshman and continued with the program until her graduation in 2005. After graduation, she relocated to Minnesota. Tiffany then joined St. Thomas to assist the Head Coach during both the team’s football and basketball seasons. Tiffany received a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration with a focus in Economic Studies. She is currently looking to begin a Master’s program in the near future. Experience and Certifications: Jillian is a former University of St. Thomas and University of Minnesota cheerleader. She has also cheered for Mystic Lake Casino, Planet Spirit Cyclones and was a Director & Cheerleader for the Minnesota Thunder Performance Team. Jillian’s 11 years of experience includes cheering, coaching, personal training, choreography, judging, Minnesota State High School League Rules Clinician & State Tournament Supervisor. Experience and Certifications: Andria is a 2008 graduate of the University of St. Thomas with a degree in public relations and psychology. She graduated from White Bear Lake High School in 2003 where she cheered on the football, hockey, basketball and competition squads. Andria cheered on the football squad at Iowa State University, as well as the football and competition squads at the University of St. Thomas. She was a four-year member of Planet Spirit, placing 4th at UCA Nationals in 2003, and was also on the “open” team for one year. Andria currently coaches at Centennial High School in Circle Pines. Experience and Certifications: Aaron is a former member of the University of Wisconsin Madison Cheer Team that placed 8th at UCA Nationals in 2002. He also cheered for the Minnesota Thunder Performance Team and has experience in coaching and choreography at the High School and All Star levels. Aaron was also co-owner of a cheerleading videography company back in 2006. AACCA judges training-2007.

Experience and Certifications: Betty has an extensive background in cheer coaching, judging, dance, and safety certification instruction. She has over 20 years of coaching experience; founding two All-Star programs as well as coaching High School. Her teams have won national and state titles. Betty was selected as “Who’s Who of Cheer Coaches” by American Cheerleading Magazine. Betty has judged local, state, and national competitions, and serves as a UPA Regional Director. Betty is also a safety certifier for AACCA. AACCA and MCCA judges training.

Carrie Powers

Experience and Certifications: Carrie has been involved in cheerleading and gymnastics for over 20 years, which includes 10 years of competitive experience as an athlete and over 13 years as a coach, clinician and choreographer. She is the former Assistant Program Director and Coach of the Sun Prairie Cheer Program in WI which includes 3 UCA National Coed Finalists Teams. She also has over 7 years of gymnastics coaching experience at different clubs and organizations in MN and WI, which included a 5 year head coaching position also at Sun Prairie High School. Carrie continues to enjoy consulting for the Sun Prairie HS Coed Nationals Team as well as a recent trip to Europe where she and her husband Steve coached and choreographed five teams in Jyvaskyla, Finland. Carrie and Steve live in St. Michael, MN with their 3 year old son, Jackson and 8 month old daughter, Kate. Carrie works as a Nurse and Director of Clinical Training for an interventional cardiology medical device company in Maple Grove, MN. AACCA and MCCA judges training.

Experience and Certifications: Steve has been involved with competitive cheerleading for 20 years as a competitor, choreographer, coach, clinician and adjudicator. He has coached at the collegiate, high school and all-star levels, and his teams have won dozens of championships and finished atop their division at several national level competitions, including multiple UCA Nationals Top 5 finishes, AACCA judges training and a UCA National Championship.

Experience and Certifications: Vicki is an 8th year UCA staffer, and has been cheering for 13 years including 2 years at the college level at UW-Oshkosh. She has been awarded Head Instructor of the Year for the summer of 2006 through UCA. Vicki’s coaching career includes Central College in Pella, IA, Iowa All-Stars and Planet Spirit All-Stars. She is an AACCA and stunt certifier and holds her own AACCA certification. She also has judged All-Star Nationals in 2007 and judges many local competitions. AACCA judges training.

Experience and Certifications: Alysa is a 2006 University of Minnesota graduate where she was a Gopher Hockey Cheerleader for three years. She was voted “most improved cheerleader” during her first season with the Gophers. Alysa coached at Eden Prairie High School, her alma mater, for two and a half years. She coached the Junior Varsity team, and has helped coach the Varsity Football and Varsity Hockey cheerleaders at games and with ice skating skills. Her Junior Varsity team won the regional competition at the 2006 MCCA Great Minnesota Cheer-Off. Alysa is currently in her first season as Assistant Basketball Cheerleading coach at the University of St. Thomas. She enjoys judging cheerleading competitions and has recently joined the MCCA Board of Directors. Alysa is employed by M&I Bank in Eden Prairie as a Personal Banker. AACCA and MCCA judges training.

JoEllen Wesselman

Experience and Certifications: JoEllen has coached cheerleaders in Iowa for seventeen years. She has served as a speaker multiple times in both Iowa and Minnesota, and has been a safety judge in state competitions in Iowa, Kansas, and Minnesota. She is AACCA certified and teaches various courses to Iowa cheer coaches. She was Iowa’s 2002 Cheer Coach of the Year, and is active in the Iowa Cheer Coaches’ Association, where she has held the positions of at-large and district representatives, vice-president, and president. Currently she is an ICCA board trustee and and scholarship director. In addition to currently coaching H.S. cheerleaders, she coaches young All-Stars and conducts summer camps and clinics around the state of Iowa.
